Frequently Asked Questions

Where can I download Mutual?

Mutual is currently available in the App Store for iPhone and Google Play Store for Android.

How does Mutual work?

After setting up a profile, you can view other LDS singles and swipe up to show that you’re interested. When two people swipe up and create a connection, they can chat, get to know each other, and hopefully meet up for a date!

Do I have to be a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to use Mutual?

Nope. Mutual was made for single Latter-day Saints, but just like our church, visitors are welcome! We just ask that you abide by our Community Standards and don't be surprised if you get invited to meet with our church's missionaries ;)

Why haven’t I matched with anyone yet?

When you first sign up, no one will see your profile until we review it and give it a thumbs up.  This usually takes less than a day.  After that, it’s just a numbers game.  The more active you are and the more people you like, the sooner you will show up to other people who are looking.  Still having a hard time?  Try playing around with your pictures and profile info and asking a friend for feedback.

What if I swiped the wrong way and accidentally passed someone I really like?

Not to worry!  Just tap on the icon at the top left of the screen next to the menu icon (looks like a rewind button).

Why should I verify my profile?

Verifying your profile adds another layer of security that allows other users to know that you are who you say you are. To verify your profile, while in the Mutual app, go to Profile > Verify Your Account, and follow the steps. You will be prompted to submit a photo while doing one of our specified poses. Make sure when taking the verification photo that you are doing the correct pose and have good lighting. Our team will then verify your account by reviewing the submitted photo. You can check your status by selecting Profile > Account Verification again to see if your account is still pending, rejected, or verified. Once your profile has been verified, a pink badge will appear under your profile name. If you have any issues taking a verification photo, please contact our team at [email protected].

What are the rules?

Pretty simple, don’t do anything stupid.  For more details, see our Community Standards.

How do I decide who I see?

Go to Settings by tapping on the icon in the top left corner of the screen. From there, go to Filters and adjust the age and distance parameters to whatever you’re looking for.

Why do I have to be 18 to use Mutual?  I’m 16, I can date!

You’re absolutely right, BUT for now we've got to listen to our lawyers and only allow those 18 and older to use the app. If you're under 18 it's not all bad, you can still meet people at "Mutual" on Wednesday nights.

How do I see my profile?

Go to Settings by tapping on the icon in the top left corner of the screen, and tap on ‘Profile’, then 'View Profile'.

How do I edit my profile?

Go to Settings by tapping on the icon in the top left corner of the screen, and tap on ‘Profile’. Then tap on  the section of your profile that you want to update.

How do I delete or pause my account?

To delete your profile, simply go to Settings, scroll to the bottom, and choose ‘Delete My Account’. Deleting the app off your phone will not delete your account or cancel your mutualUp subscription. To cancel your subscription, you will have to cancel through the App Store or Google Play Store, as you would have to with any app subscription. Another option is to pause your account while dating someone. There is no limit to how long you can keep your account paused.

How can I report someone?

Any time you’re looking at a profile, you can tap on the screen to see more info, scroll to the bottom, and tap on the ‘Report or Block User’ button.  If you want to report someone you’ve already matched with, open up a chat with that user and tap on the ‘...’ button in the top right corner of the screen.  Tap on the red ‘Report’ button, and tell us what they did wrong! Please don't hesitate to report users who are not following our policies. We take our community's safety very seriously. If someone does something wrong, please be specific in what they did so that our review team can handle the incident quickly. If someone is verbally harassing you, being inappropriate, or behaving in a way that you think is wrong, we want to know so we can prevent this behavior from affecting other users. Please do not report people for not answering you, ghosting you, or having a profile you didn't like. In those cases just un-match or swipe down.

What are Notes? Can I send messages for free?

Notes are a way to make a great first impression. This feature allows you to send one message to someone before you match with them. Although Notes are limited, messaging on Mutual after you match with someone is unlimited and has no restrictions. When you send a Note, you can use your genius and charm to increase your likelihood of matching. When the recipient sees your profile your Note will automatically pop up displaying your message. If they swipe up on you, your Note becomes the first message in your conversation. You get one Note (pre-match message) per week as a free user of mutual. You get one Note per day as a premium user. Notes do not stack; use it or lose it!
